Basically, a wind generator works on much the same principle as an airplane propeller.  The Wind Generator is mounted on a tower (the higher the better) and as the wind moves through the area with the Wind Generator, it turns the rotor (which looks much like an airplane propeller), which in turn turns a series of shafts and gears internally which are used to generate energy through a turbine generator (much like a water turbine).  The power generated in the turbine travels through power cord to your home, the utility grid, a storage battery, or any combination of the above in order to provide power for appliances and other uses.
